Fun Facts About CARBON DIOXIDE

It seems everyone in our now Democrat-controlled Congress is in a frenzy to initiate legislation to limit and tax "carbon emissions". These carbon emissions are taken to be primarily carbon dioxide produced by burning fossil fuels, primarily oil, gas, and coal. They are wrong, wrong, and wrong. Our Congress, the United Nations and a host of others are leading us down a path of folly, if not economic ruin. Here are some interesting facts about carbon dioxide. FUN FACTS about CARBON DIOXIDE
Of the 186 billion tons of CO2 that enter earth's atmosphere each year from all sources, only 6 billion tons are from human activity. Approximately 90 billion tons come from biologic activity in earth's oceans and another 90 billion tons from such sources as volcanoes and decaying land plants.

At 368 parts per million CO2 is a minor constituent of earth's atmosphere-- less than 4/100ths of 1% of all gases present. Compared to former geologic times, earth's current atmosphere is CO2- impoverished.

CO2 is odorless, colorless, and tasteless. Plants absorb CO2 and emit oxygen as a waste product. Humans and animals breathe oxygen and emit CO2 as a waste product. Carbon dioxide is a nutrient, not a pollutant, and all life-- plants and animals alike-- benefit from more of it. All life on earth is carbon-based and CO2 is an essential ingredient. When plant-growers want to stimulate plant growth, they introduce more carbon dioxide.

CO2 that goes into the atmosphere does not stay there but is continually recycled by terrestrial plant life and earth's oceans-- the great retirement home for most terrestrial carbon dioxide.

If we are in a global warming crisis today, even the most aggressive and costly proposals for limiting industrial carbon dioxide emissions would have a negligible effect on global climate!

Total human contributions to greenhouse gases account for only about 0.28% of the "greenhouse effect" (Figure 2). Anthropogenic (man-made) carbon dioxide (CO2) comprises about 0.117% of this total, and man-made sources of other gases ( methane, nitrous oxide (NOX), other misc. gases) contributes another 0.163% .

Approximately 99.72% of the "greenhouse effect" is due to natural causes -- mostly water vapor and traces of other gases, which we can do nothing at all about. Eliminating human activity altogether would have little impact on climate change.

The case for a "greenhouse problem" is made by environmentalists, news anchormen , and special interests who make inaccurate and misleading statements about global warming and climate change. Even though people may be skeptical of such rhetoric initially, after awhile people start believing it must be true because we hear it so often.

"We have to offer up scary scenarios, make simplified, dramatic statements, and make little mention of any doubts we may have. Each of us has to decide what the right balance is between being effective and being honest."Stephen Schneider (leading advocate of the global warming theory)(in interview for Discover magazine, Oct 1989)

"In the United States...we have to first convince the American People and the Congress that the climate problem is real."former President Bill Clinton in a 1997 address to the United Nations.

I think Americans and people around the world have been and are being fooled and misled about the threat of and causes of global warming.

Doesn't hurt to at least be environmentally friendly either way.

Thank you SO much :) xx

Your figures may need to be checked.

According to the International Energy Agency CO2 emissions in 2010 are estimated to have climbed to a record 30.6 GIGAtonnes (Gt).

Permafrost, or frozen ground, covers approximately 20 to 25 percent of the land-surface area in the northern hemisphere, and is estimated to contain up to 1,600 gigatons of carbon, primarily in the form of organic matter. (One gigaton is equivalent to 1 billion tons.)

By comparison, the atmosphere now contains around 850 gigatons of the element as carbon dioxide.

"Permafrost historically has served as a carbon sink, largely isolating carbon from participating in the carbon cycle," says Jacobson, whose research is funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the David and Lucile Packard Foundation. "However, global warming could transform the Arctic into a new carbon source by accelerating the rate of permafrost melting. This undoubtedly would have a dramatic effect on the global carbon cycle."

I think you should check your argument as a hole! It´s not a theory anymore that humaninduced global heating exist, it´s a fact!
To think that we, as humans, have no part in global warming is not just unscientific - it´s stupidity.
Scientist all over the world has reach the same conclusion.
That the U.S, for a long time, has refused to make any attempt top lower thier CO2-emission is another sad story. The U.S is one of the biggest CO2-polluter in the world so and also a big producer/consumer of fossil fuels. Any limitation is just for the better.

Anon who just posted: you are wrong about everything you just said in you comment. Open your eyes and your mind; the evidence is everywhere. Start with the most recent posting on this blog, follow some links read and learn. Most importantly, ignore what is said in the mainstream media, like The New York Times, NBC, MSNBC, CBS, CNN, ABC, etc. They are nothing more than corrupt propaganda arms of the liberal "elite" who seek to rule the world and destroy capitalism.

Humans may contribute somewhat to the warming of the Earth, but we do not affect it as much as scientists say. After all, if we have such a big affect, then why must scientists lie to get us on board?! The Earth has underwent seven ice ages in the past 650,000 years, and the last one ended 7,000 years ago. So if some of yall will do your research, you'll realize that the earth has gone through NATURAL climate changes in the past. Did you know that very little money has been funded to research the NATURAL causes of global warming, but nearly 4 billion dollars has been funded to research the man-made causes of global warming. Greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide and CFCs yes, are somewhat man-made, but if yall looked into it you'd find that they are for the most part...NATURAL.

The point JoJo is that globalwarming isnt as serious an issue as Al Gore would have us believe. It IS however a convenient way to part businesses with their money via "carbon taxes". And just who owns the PRIVATE company where these taxes will be paid too......????

Bud,
Which facts or "opinions" do you deny are true? And why, or are you just another lowly global warming troll?
