I am not in "denial". I am not part of any "public relations" program. I am not beholden to nor paid by anyone to express my opinion about what I call the myth of man-caused global warming. Oh, and I am an Earth Scientist, a Geologist to be exact. My original interest in this subject has been purely scientific. It is politicians who have made global warming a world-wide political and economic issue. I have all of this well-documented and I've done it purely as a hobby, as ...almost a personal battle against injustice.

 

It is unjust because most people are not scientists and are too busy with their own lives to look into the real science behind the concept of man-caused global warming. As sure as the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, I am sure man's activities are not significantly involved in causing global warming or climate change. People are and have been systematically, callously, relentlessly, calculatingly indoctrinated into believing that the burning of fossil fuels, (coal and oil) is causing global warming, climate change and every weather-related event, the more dramatic and destructive the better.

 And our government just keeps pouring out the false propaganda, and since the government might as well own the mainstream media, theirs is the only side of the story most people hear. It is a travesty and a tragedy. It is being pursued by governments for only one reason: to control the energy industry and use it as a means of further controlling and taxing the people. It is like taxing the food we eat or the air we breathe. When and if people become aware of this, they will become, as I am, outraged.

The author of this article is wrong, exaggerated, uneducated, and inflammatory in nearly everything he says.  It is little wonder I don't pay much attention to anything printed in Forbes Magazine.  How can they pay someone to write something so stupid?

Planet Earth Does Not "Lose" Ice

Breaking news: planet Earth does not "lose" ice or water.  Ice either melts into water and is stored in the oceans, lakes, rivers, atmosphere or underground reservoirs.  When ice is not melting, water is being added to glaciers as snow and ice.  This cycle of cooling and warming, melting and freezing, has been going on essentially since the creation of the Earth.  Note this has been going on longer and is controlled by forces far greater than humans burning fossil fuels.

Chilling Report: Earth Loses 300 Billion Tons of Ice Each Year

It is amazing to see because it feels so clearly out of place, but in some spots along Antarctica’s coast you can actually find hints of grass and other plant life—green evidence that in parts of the long-frozen continent the ice is thinning, and fast.

 

But just how much ice is being lost? A new, ten-year study conducted by Bristol University’s Glaciology Centre says that between Antarctica and Greenland, the answer is 300 billion tons a year.
That’s a lot of ice cubes.

In scientific terms, a decade makes for a short study; this one can’t forecast whether this kind of loss will sustain into the future. (Though reasoned experts believe it will and may even accelerate.) But if it continues at this pace, goodbye Miami, Hong Kong, New York City, etc., as well as the homes of hundreds of millions who live on estuaries, deltas, coral atolls and great city river basins around the globe.

The two massive ice sheets in Greenland and Antarctica combined—the ice in Antarctica is three miles thick at some places—contain 99.5 percent of the earth’s glacier ice. If it were all to melt (which would admittedly take centuries), sea levels would rise by 500 to 600 feet.

I’ve been to Antarctica on a couple dozen different trips, mostly along it’s long, skinny Peninsula, which because it is surrounded by warming ocean on both sides is the area most-impacted by the planet’s changing climate. It’s there each austral summer that more shorelines are exposed thanks to disappearing ice, and where you find hints of plant life. (How did the seeds get there? Most likely hitchhiking on fishing boats and visiting tourist ships, both growing in numbers.)

Another satellite study, conducted over the past 20 years by NASA and the European Space Agency, confirms the Bristol study, reporting that the planet’s ice sheets have melted faster in the last 20 years than in the last 10,000.

According to this study, melting ice from both poles has been responsible for a fifth of the global rise in sea levels since 1992. The rest was caused by the thermal expansion of the warming ocean, the melting of mountain glaciers, small Arctic ice caps and groundwater mining. The share of the polar ice melt, however, is rising and most concerning.

When it comes to Antarctica, though, it can be tricky to generalize. It is a huge continent; the U.S. could easily fit inside its borders. In the huge area of East Antarctica, where the ice is mostly above sea level, the air temperature is also much lower, and the experts do not expect the ice to melt on account of rising temperatures. In this part of Antarctica, the ice sheet is actually growing as a consequence of increased snowfall.

But today, using a variety of satellite reports and on-the-ice studies that have been going on for many decades, even conservative scientists say sea levels are rising 60 percent faster than what the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change predicted in 2007.

We’re in Deep Water: What Climate Change Could Do to Your City (PHOTOS)

Fish flopping on Venice Boulevard, dolphins circumnavigating palm trees, whales beached on the boardwalk—these are the mental images that artist and researcher Nickolay Lamm’s climate change creations bring to the surface.

 

Lamm, from the self-storage search engine StorageFront.com, crafted chilling illustrations that depict how climate change could have Venice, San Diego and many other metropolitan cities gasping for air.

With the help of Climate Central’s sea level rise maps and flood formulas, Lamm used data to create realistic images of American towns completely submerged in seawater. He started with stock photos of a city and cross-referenced their location to topography maps. Lamm then implemented a formula that determined what that city would look like using elevation, tide and sea level forecasts.

“By illustrating what sea level rise will look like in real life,” Lamm tells Mashable, “I'm hoping to make our rising oceans a bigger issue on peoples' minds.”

Climate Central forecasts that the Earth’s temperature will rise by between three and seven more degrees Fahrenheit by 2100. Since climbing temperatures mean melting polar ice caps and rising seas, the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research predicts that the sea level is expected to rise between two and seven feet by the century’s end.

So what are we waiting for? If we go with the flow and let climate change swell, our greatest cities could be in deep water. 

Some Thoughts On Cap And Trade

This comes from a veterinarian, who knows bull$hit when he sees or smells it, and that is what the Obama Administration's "cap and trade" legislation is. This veterinarian is simply pointing out the obvious. This follows the absurdity of the EPA labelling carbon dioxide as a "pollutant". We had better wake up to what the liberal, leftist Democrats, led by Obama, Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid are trying to put over on us!

What is this and what does it mean for veterinary medicine?

Commentaries on Cap and Trade It is fair to say that veterinarians are not experts on matters of the environment, chemistry, physics, and climatology. On the other hand, to enter veterinary school one must at least pass or survive a prerequisite amount of college courses pertaining to the basic sciences, such as chemistry, biology, physics, animal science, toxicology, etc. While in veterinary school, we certainly learn about the interactions and effects of chemicals and physical forces upon living systems, be it animal or human. It comes as no surprise to most customers that as veterinarians we become quite experienced in dealing with matters pertaining to elimination, be it of the urinary tract or digestive tract. To get to the point, be it feces, excrement, bowel movements, or "bullshit", we learn to recognize it and call it what it is. For simplicity and time efficiency, I outline my thoughts on this subject. 1. Cap and Trade is based upon the assumption that CO2 emissions cause "global warming" in a significant manner. 2. There is no definitive proof of this concept. It is controversial. 3. Nancy Pelosi refused to hear testimony or introduce a 95 page report from a senior EPA scientist refuting the claims that CO2 Emissions are causing global warming. For starters, the global temperature is not rising. Other groups of scientists are being ignored as well. 4. The effects of the Cap and Trade legislation will drastically tax and increase the cost of production of electricity in the United States, especially in Texas, since coal is the primary source of electricity generation. Some estimates suggest a rapid doubling upon the prices of electricity. 5. Large polluting countries like China and India will likely continue to ignore such measures, continuing to be price competitive, and take more and more jobs from America. Is there anything else that's not made in China or serviced in India? That's why we owe China so much debt. This debt makes the value of the American money worth less and less. 6. If the cost of electricity for this animal clinic goes from $12,000 a year to $24,000, I will have to pass on such costs to customers. Other businesses will in turn pass on their costs, drastically raising the cost of veterinary medicine. 7. If our nation's leaders wish to burn less coal for electricity generation, they should make it possible to build more nuclear power plants or petroleum or natural gas powered plants, not tax the prices of our electricity. 8. I am all for preserving resources and taking care of the environment, but taking draconian measures that automatically punish users of electricity, small and large, based upon highly debated science is inappropriate. 9. When legislation doesn't seem to make sense, always "follow the money trail". I will provide some other links to help in this matter.

Man-Caused Global Warming Defies All Logic And Common Sense (and science)

Sea level has risen about 400 feet since the end of the last Ice Age, just 20,000 or so years ago. We are in an Inter-Glacial Period of natural warming which has caused the melting of the continental glaciers which covered much of the land mass in the Northern Hemisphere and was in some places 2 or more miles thick. Nearly all of this melted and most of the water entered the oceans. In general, this is all undisputed by scientists. It can be proven, and it has been.

Yet somehow the global warming alarmists like those now gathered in Copenhagen, want the world to believe we are all in peril from trivial rising sea levels and warming. They spread fear and exploit people's ignorance. It is despicable, and should be criminal.

"The Greenie message is entirely emotional and devoid of all logic. They say that polar ice will melt and cause a big sea-level rise. Yet 91% of the world's glacial ice is in Antarctica, where the average temperature is around minus 40 degrees Celsius. The melting point of ice is zero degrees. So for the ice to melt on any scale the Antarctic temperature would need to rise by around 40 degrees, which NOBODY is predicting. The median Greenie prediction is about 4 degrees.

So where is the huge sea level rise going to come from? Mars? And the North polar area is mostly sea ice and melting sea ice does not raise the sea level at all. Yet Warmists constantly hail any sign of Arctic melting. That the melting of floating ice does not raise the water level is known as Archimedes' principle. Archimedes demonstrated it around 2,500 years ago. That Warmists have not yet caught up with that must be just about the most inspissated ignorance imaginable.

The whole Warmist scare defies the most basic physics. Sadly, what the Vulgate says in John 1:5 is still only very partially true: "Lux in tenebris lucet". There is still much darkness in the minds of men. "

Ancient Maps A Mystery, Raise Questions About Man-Caused Global Warming

Ancient maps showing Antarctica with no glacial ice around its coastline. The map appears very accurate. When was Antarctica last this ice-free? Cores taken from the bottom of the Ross Sea show terrestrial (land-derived) sediments that are about 6,000 years old. Who could have been sailing around Antarctica that long ago and making maps? Were there sufficiently advanced civilizations at that time? I think the answer is yes.

Another question is, the global climate must have been significantly warmer then, and with sea level higher than it is now. What caused this warm period? What caused the subsequent cooling that then covered the area with glacial ice? One thing for certain, it was not man's activities and the burning of fossil fuels adding carbon dioxide to the atmosphere. I think these questions need answering before we run off trying to stop climate change by drastically reducing our use of fossil fuels. (source)

This map was found in the Library of Congress, Washington DC in 1960 by Charles Hapgood. It was drawn by Oronteus Finaeus in 1531. As with the Piri Reis map, Antarctica is shown to be ice free with flowing rivers, drainage patterns and clean coastline. Some of the mountain ranges shown were only discovered recently. The deep interior didn't show any rivers or mountains which some believe means it was already covered in ice at the time. The Oronteus Finaeus map is more accurate than any other map of the same time. In fact, it is more accurate than any map made anywhere up to the year 1800.

Another tidbit of proof is the Ross sea. Today huge glaciers feed into it, making it a floating ice shelf hundreds of feet thick. Yet this map and the Reis map show estuaries and rivers at the site.

In 1949 coring was done to take samples of the ice and sediment at the bottom of the Ross Sea. They clearly showed several layers of stratification, meaning the area went through several environmental changes. Some of the sediments were of the type usually brought down to the sea by rivers. Tests done at the Carnegie Institute in Washington DC, which date radioactive elements found in sea water, dated the sediments at about 4000 BC, which would mean the area was ice free with flowing rivers up until that time - exactly what is recorded on the Reis and Finaeus maps.

The life of Oronce Fine (Oronce Finé, Orotius Finaeus, Oronteus Finaeus) (1494-1555)

Oronce Fine was born in Briançon in 1494 and educated in Paris. After a brief spell in prison in 1518, he earned a medical degree from the Collège de Navarre in Paris in 1522, although he was to become a mathematician. In 1524, he was once again in prison and in the same year he built an ivory sundial that still exists. Like many mathematicians of the sixteenth century, Fine was considered an expert on fortifications and worked on the defenses of Milan.

In 1531, he was appointed to the chair of mathematics at the Collège Royal in Paris. He wrote voluminously on scientific subjects, his publications including treatises on astronomical instruments and astronomy (he suggested in 1520 that eclipses of the moon could be used to determine the longitude of places); he also invented a map projection, producing a map of the world in 1519 using it. He also drew the first domestically published map of France in 1525 and on another map of the world, drawn in 1531, the name Terra Australis appeared for the first time. Other productions include works on arithmetic and geometry. In 1544, he calculated the value of pi to be (22 2/9)/7, which he later refined to 47/15 and, in De rebus mathematicis of 1556, 3 11/78. In astronomy, he believed that the earth was at the center of the universe (in common with most of his European contemporaries) and he built an astronomical clock in 1553.
