Faulty Temperature Data Linked To Global Warming Creator James Hansen

I have heard about this potentially ruinous and scandalous misuse of temperature data used by NASA and the United Nations IPCC to define and begin all the interest in global warming. I will try to find more on this subject.

Canadian research scientist Steve McIntyre, whose expertise is in mineral exploration and author of numerous articles on the made up name 'global warming', the real science of 'climate change'; and the facts and myths which surround it. McIntyre has recently discovered evidence which destroys the hypothetical theories brought on by James Hansen (who made up the name 'global warming' in 1988) and Michael Mann who developed the famous 'hockey stick' chart convincing us so-called global warming is caused by human pollution.

Steve McIntyre is every bit the tenacious investigator as I wish to be in disclosing the fictional fabrication of this made up name 'global warming'. He has recently discovered evidence while inspecting historical temperature graphs showing a strange discontinuity, or "jump", in many regions all occurring around the time of January, 2000. The graphs, which are used by the IPCC and all other global warming advocates, were created by NASA's Reto Ruedy and James Hansen. After discovering this obvious 'disconnect', McKintyre made contact with Hansen requesting further information as to his findings.

James Hansen, the creator of this myth known as 'global warming' refused to provide McKintyre with the algorithm used to generate graph data. Not being surprised at Hansen's defensiveness, McKintyre reverse-engineered it. The result appeared to be a Y2K bug in the handling of the raw data, hence the discontinuity (or jump) around the time of January 2000.McKintyre notified the Hansen and Ruedy of the bug; Ruedy replied and acknowledged the problem as an "oversight" that would be fixed in the next data refresh.

NASA has now silently released corrected figures, and the changes are truly astounding. The warmest year on record is now 1934. 1998 (long trumpeted by the media as record-breaking) moves to second place, with 1921 being the third warmest year in recorded history. In fact, five of the ten warmest years on record now all occur before World War II.

The fact is we are in a "warming trend"; this will be followed by a "cooling trend". It always has been, and it always will be. This fictional depiction of the 1988 made up name 'global warming', of which most people have been conditioned to equate to human pollution, is nothing less than a fraud. No less so than 9-11 = Iraq. It was a lie then, and it is a lie now.

What scares me more than a 9.0 earthquake hitting within 1 mile of my home, is the witnessing of a 'dumbed down' America. What 5th grader has not studied geography history telling of the great 1930's "Dust Bowl". The skill of "critical thinking" use to be taught in our educational system, now it has all but disappeared. But this still does not excuse our God given gift of "intuition" and the use of applied discernment.

How some bone head such as Hansen was able to convince an American public of his "made up" hypothetical graphs is beyond me. Of course Al Gore, US Senator (1985-93) was present at the 1988 US Senate hearing when Hansen presented his made up name 'global warming', and boy oh boy did he bite hook-line-and-sinker. I'm sure Al means well, but then again, there is a lot of money to be made as the leader of the global warming environmental regime.

The Atmosphere: Part One: Structure and Temperature

There are distinct temperature regimes in the atmosphere from the troposphere (up to about 10 km though this can vary) to the exosphere (escape region) above the thermosphere. The temperature (T) decreases with height (z) in the tropopause which promotes convection, so the troposphere is generally considered well mixed. The opposite occurs in the stratosphere where the temperature increases with height (it has a positive lapse rate; lapse rate = Delta T/Delta z). Although some mixing does occur in the stratosphere it is a more stable, and stratified layer. It is also considerably drier than the troposphere because the temperatures in the tropopause are far below 0 degrees C. An important component of the stratosphere is the presence of ozone. Ultraviolet light is absorbed in the upper part of the atmosphere and by ozone and this causes the higher temperature at the top of the stratosphere where there is an ozone concentration maximum (this maximum is generally between 30 to 50 km).

Temperature, CO2, Global Warming? Think Again

Here are some good comments from "Tom". It should be shocking that more skeptical scientists are not being heard from. It should make us very suspicious about what the IPCC, United Nations, the mass media, and our politicians are telling us.

My goodness, the measurement of the .6C +/- .2C change in a 100yrs+ or so is taken as absolute fact. The measurement of a global mean temp by the use of surface sensors is pretty close to pure folly. Each individual sensor measures nothing more than the immediate micro climate around the sensor. Taking a sensors data and statistically extrapolating it to represent 100s if not 1000s of km2 of surface area is not a simple task and then merging this data with proxy data is even more complex. Yet we take these numbers as if they are solid...well I don't but the IPCC does. These numbers are not solid...if the .6C change has a +/- .2C margin of error, that means we have a potential margin of error of .4C absolute.

Yet, all we hear in the news is how EVERYTHING is caused by global warming. It's really disgusting to this scientist. What is NOT known is much larger than what IS known with respect to climate science. The IPCC got rid of the HOCKEY STICK graph for their 4th assessment...why? It was so prominently played in the last assessment..what changed? The NAS debunked it for all practical purposes, that's why. Because the Medieval times were warmer than today in all liklihood, without increased CO2.

Historical temperature reconstruction is an INexact science. Global Climate Models are far from predicting the future. The scientific method in all of this popular discussion seems to be missing. I am at my wits end and this "science" publication has gone so far off of the scientific roadway as to deem it a laughable publication...especially this current article I am responding to. Wow.

CO2 lags temperature change in the ice core data. Many studies (accepted in scientific journals worldwide) show this. Temperature changes first then co2 follows in the ice core data. Co2 is not a driver of temperature change in paleoclimate study. It likely has some effect due to its radiative properties, but the Sun/Cosmic rays and other climate drivers likely outweigh co2's effect by magnitudes.

Mixing politics, pop culture with a scientific subject in its infancy is dangerous...it is dangerous because of what the alarmists claim we need to do...we don't even have the methodolgy to measure the change in temps if KYOTO were to be implemented entirely. Yet the economic effects would be huge. When push comes to shove and you the general public realizes how much money this charade will cost them they will revolt. Right now it is all just mass media hyperbole and most people don't really give a hoot. Al Gore is an opprotunist and leftist hollywood along with the willing mainstream media are playing the ultimate hypocrites.
